When you live in a 90 square foot palace, every inch counts! Problems manifest when, in addition to cloths and daily living supplies, you’re also trying to carry around 7 surfboards, 2 bikes, 60 bottles of wine, 1 dog, and 18 pairs of ladies shoes. Over the last 10 months that we’ve been living in the van I recognized this issue and took action. Our new custom-built black powder-coated steel platform roof rack virtually doubles our living space. Now Stand-Up and long boards go on the roof and we have a Thule rocket box full of rock climbing, scuba diving, and camping gear.
The net results:
-Gas mileage decreased by 2-3 miles per gallon
-Stevie has better access to her shoe rack
-Kiki’s living space increased by approximately 4 square feet
-2 collapsible bikes can fit inside the cabin
-We now have a platform on the roof where we can watch the sunset
We are ready to head south! Our official border cross-over date into Baja Mexico is October 10th. Until then we’ll be enjoying the end of the California summer. We’ll be hanging out in San Clemente and Encinitas surfing at Trestles and Sano.
